Premium Osteopathic Manual Therapy.
At Home for Business Leaders.

As a Manual Therapist Gareth Milner BSc. Osteopathy applies hands-on and evidenced based, Osteopathic joint and soft tissue manipulation techniques to effect musculoskeletal wellbeing and improved health.

With a Bachelor of Science Degree in Osteopathy from The European School of Osteopathy in 2004, as an Osteopath Gareth administers Manual Medicine following clinical diagnosis of the patient's presenting condition.

Osteopathic Manipulation can successfully treat Back & Joint Pain, Spinal Disc injuries, Sciatica, Osteoarthritis, Breathing Problems, Migraines & Headaches, Frozen Shoulder, Rotator Cuff Tendonitis, Digestive problems including IBS and Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux, Circulatory Problems due to Peripheral Vascular Disease ... et cetera. The list of conditions to the left is not exhaustive in Osteopathy's therapeutic intervention.

Professional Clinical excellence
in Spinal Joint Manipulation.

Osteopaths use manual techniques, including Joint Articulation, High Velocity Thrust Manipulation, Soft Tissue stretching and Massage. Most back pain presentations are due to mechanical joint dysfunction and these manual techniques effect spinal realignment and mobility.

Through the Patient’s Case History and Physical Examination an Osteopath diagnoses if the back pain is more serious (e.g. a spinal disc prolapse or a kidney stone), and decide whether referral to a medical Doctor is needed or not.

Primary Healthcare … at its most remarkable

As an Osteopath Gareth is extensively trained in Orthopaedics, Neurology and common Pathology (disease) and with this may refer you to another healthcare specialist for further examination, alongside the Osteopathic treatment.

Gareth will recommend and prescribe lifestyle changes including Exercise Rehabilitation, Postural Advice, Computer Workstation Ergonomics, Nutrition and Supplementation, Optimal Manual Handling practice (including lifting, pushing and pulling), Breathing Exercises and Emotional Stress Reduction Techniques et cetera.

Achieve more Business Success with
Manual Therapist Malta.

With over 15 years as the CEO & Managing Director of UK trading Business Osteopathic Solutions Ltd, Gareth Milner understands what it takes out of you, in leading a successful Business.

'' From my experience you can forget about your health, but only up to a point as your productivity and creativity in business will suffer, leading to mistakes, poor decisions and loss of business time due to ill health. Mental stress, which you can't avoid as a Business Leader; which can be chronic, every day, and even creep into your weekends, leads to physical strain with body stiffness and pain.

Chronic pain and musculoskeletal tension in itself is distracting for anyone, let alone a CEO; pulling you away from the mental clarity needed in difficult business decisions.

With Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy at your home; as well as arming you with the knowledge and practical skills to self-rehabilitate and self-care, Manual Therapist Malta will support you to be the best version of yourself, both in your personal and professional lives.''

Work performance affected by pain? Even losing days at work?

IMG_7812.jpg

Even with chronic presentations including spinal joint arthritis and spondylosis (‘wear and tear’), regular Maintenance Treatment with an Osteopath every 3-4 weeks is highly effective at maintaining a good range of spinal mobility, holding of spinal posture improvements and management of chronic pain. Osteopaths train in Primary Healthcare practice. This means we’re qualified to examine, assess and diagnose patients.

Osteopathy is a holistic therapy that takes into account the whole of the patient, and with regards to our manual 'tools', the whole of the Patient's musculoskeletal and visceral (organ) system. However, our goal is to treat the person, not the condition. So, rather than focusing on the problem area, we put a lot of effort into getting to know your lifestyle, habits and medical history. This allows us to address the causes of your problem, instead of just treating the symptoms.

Get better. Feel better. Enjoy a healthier, more active life.

As Gareth Milner graduated from the leading Osteopathy University in England, The European School of Osteopathy (see photo of Gareth with his Degree Certificate in the left gallery) he trained extensively in Visceral Manipulation and Cranio-Sacral Techniques during his 4 year Degree studies.

Soft Tissue Massage Techniques. Osteopaths apply a gentle stretching force to the muscle, across it, or along its length with their palms, thumbs or fingers. Locally to the area this helps release muscle stiffness, improve blood flow and reduce pain. Soft tissue massage techniques applied to the right areas, can have a positive effect on overall body posture, as well as improving the mobility of the joints local to the treatment.

Mobilisation/ Articulation Techniques. These rhythmic techniques are relaxing and pleasurable to have performed on you, and extremely effective in improving joint motion and reducing pain. As Osteopaths we learn mobilisation and articulation techniques from the foot right up to the jaw joints.

Joint Traction. Traction techniques involve stretching the joint or joints by separating their surfaces, which improves the mobility. Traction techniques applied to the neck are very effective in relieving pain caused by nerve compression.

4th Neck Vertebral Joint Thrust Manipulation

High Velocity Thrusts (HVTs). Joint manipulation or adjustment are other names. These are the techniques people most commonly associate with Osteopaths.

A quick and relatively forceful thrust is applied to the joint, in the range of movement that it doesn’t want to move in; resulting in immediate improved joint mobility and alignment.

HVTs are perfectly safe in an Osteopath’s hands (after Clinical Assessment) and can be applied to all joints across the body, especially to the spinal joints.

Muscle Energy Techniques (MET). The Osteopath requests that the person contracts a certain muscle with around a third of their strength. They are asked to relax and then the muscle is stretched. This is generally repeated 2 more times. MET is more effective than stretching a muscle alone.

For an example of MET, picture a footballer having cramp on the pitch and having their leg raised up. That’s a static stretch. If the Osteopath requested the footballer to push down with their heel, and then relax, with the leg then raised further, that’s MET applied to the hamstring muscle.

Neuromuscular Techniques (NMT). NMT involves direct pressure (applied with your thumb, elbow or massage tool) to the muscle. Commonly it is applied to taught muscle bands called trigger points. NMT is very effective in reducing pain from musculoskeletal disorder and restoring joint mobility.

Visceral Manipulation. Visceral Osteopathy applies stretching and release techniques to the organs, both in the chest and abdomen, helping to directly treat breathing disorders and digestive syndromes. As all organs have anatomical and neurological connection to the spine, Visceral techniques can effect improved spinal mechanical function and posture, helping to treat back pain.

The Osteopathic Profession
00:00 / 19:04

Improve Your Quality of Life with Manual Therapist Malta.

Cranial Osteopathy/ Balanced Ligamentous Techniques. Cranial Osteopathy and Balanced Ligamentous Techniques are much more subtle,  but that doesn’t mean less effective. They work on releasing physical tensions across the body and in specific joints. These techniques have the same aim as any Osteopathic and Manual Therapy technique; they are just another way in. Gareth especially finds Cranial techniques effective in treating Patients in acute pain, as well as young children and people with an ectomorph body type. For more information about Cranial Osteopathy watch Gareth Milner discuss Osteopathy on his Podcast called ''The Pain-Free Podcast'' with special guest Giovanni Bruno (click the PLAY arrow on the Video to the right).

Electrotherapy.

As a modern-day Osteopath Gareth incorporates Electrotherapy for pain-relief including Interferential Therapy, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and Therapeutic Ultrasound into his bespoke Patient treatment plans. Interferential Therapy and TENS are especially useful in Patients with painful muscle spasms, allowing pain reduction to enable Osteopathic manipulation. Therapeutic Ultrasound is effective in releasing painful tight muscle bands called ‘Trigger Points’ as well as aiding healing of tendon and ligament injury.
